Death of a Charlotte Blogger

Recently, a local blogger died after a 4 day bout with lung cancer. In fact, her death was so quick, she died before the diagnosis was actually made.

Her friends and family were overwhelmed with the support they received from the "strangers" who got to know her through her 12 weeks of posting. This blog is a bit different in that not only was it about her personal life as a working mother, she also shared a lot of her wit and wisdom about Charlotte parenting.

It's an interesting example of that overlap in networking between FtF and CMC that we've been talking about in class. Also, could this be an example of how social capital moves back and forth between online and FtF? What do you think?

I am shocked at how suddenly this sweet and caring woman passed away. I never knew those facts about lung cancer, which I feel that I should because my grandmother is battling it herself.

Second, I am also amazed by how many people that did not know this woman in person but felt that they knew her because of her post. My topic for this class has a little to do with social capital so I’ve read a little bit about it. And this blog is a true example of the way everyone participating in this blog gains something positive. And it shows how a large community like Charlotte can become very small for these mothers participating on this blog.

I think what both of the Jen’s have done with this site is great and if the time ever comes for me to become a mother, this is a site that I will definitely check out.

I am surprised of the amount of people that this woman really touched with her help to parents in the charlotte area. Her blog became a real big hit for moms that faced difficulties in there parenting and in that case i am not surprised with the amount of people that kept her in there thoughts and prayers. I am sure that Jen is looking down on all the people she touched with her knowledge of parenting and knowing that she was able to help them out.
